When it comes to Scripture, everyone has misunderstood portions of it at one point or another. So, how do we deal with misinterpretations and how do we know who has the correct interpretation? Even more important, there are serious consequences of misinterpreting Scripture and with that, we must be responsible readers. Join us in this discussion on ways that we can approach Scripture responsibly. 

Some tips to help avoid misinterpretation:

• Always consider the literal context of Scripture. What comes before and after the text.
• If you can, study the historical situation surrounding the text
• Who is the text being addressed to?
• What are others saying about the text? (careful here – they may be wrong as well)
• Does the text line up with the character of Jesus?
